This year too, the ETHNOSPORT FORUM, which took place on 4 and 5 April in Antalya,
Türkiye, and focused on the theme “The rebirth of traditional sports”, received great
enthusiasm. Organized by the World Ethnosport Union (WEU), it brought together
experts from 29 countries, including academics, representatives of federations, and
researchers, who discussed topics such as the potential for international cooperation in
traditional sports, financial sustainability, and media strategies. Attending the various
thematic sessions was Vittorio Giorgi, president of the Italian Federation of Kurash
and Traditional Wrestling, a sports association affiliated with the A.S.I. and a member
of the World Ethnosport Union. A Round Table of Sports Ministers from various countries
was also held. During the Forum, World Ethnosport Union President Necmeddin Bilal
Erdogan officially unveiled “ETHNOSPORTS 2027”, a new game format that will take
place every four years, starting next year, and which will feature traditional sports as a
cultural element of the world’s peoples, and not just as sporting competitions. The experts
from the various Technical Commissions who will work for “ETHNOSPORTS 2027” were
then appointed. An Italian has been chosen for the Traditional Wrestling Technical
Commission: Mattia Galbiati, technical director of the Italian Federation of Kurash and
Traditional Wrestling, with extensive experience in the sector and a degree in History. “This
is a very important result, not only for our federation, but for our country”, comments
Vittorio Giorgi. “In this time of great crisis and instability globally, Traditional Sports are
a bridge of peace and cooperation between peoples, offering us the prospect for a better
world.”
